Table lamp composed of a reflecting body in aluminium in 3 colour variations, finished internally with an opaque white plastic film and folded and closed via hooks riveted to the s heet metal. A coloured seal in moulded tpu runs along the entire profile of the body. The internal base in extruded aluminium is attached to the body for stability and it also supports the bulb socket. Italian architect and designer, Mario Bellini, born on February 1, 1935, graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 1959. His diverse career spans architecture, exhibition design, and furniture design, flourishing during the Italian economic boom of the late 20th century. Bellini is a recipient of numerous design accolades, including eight Compasso d’Oro awards and the Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement by the Triennale di Milano. In 2019, he was honored with a career medal by the Italian President of the Chamber of Deputies, Roberto Fico, recognizing his significant contributions to Italian architecture and design.
The company was founded in 1962 by Dino and Cesare Cassina in Merano, Italy. The brand started out as a laboratory for designers and architects, seeking to innovate the lighting industry. In order to retain this philosophy, the company moved to Brescia, where the new headquarters were used as a think tank for new designs and ideas. In 1963, Sergio Gandini became managing director of the firm and would prove to be a crucial personality in FLOS’ history.
It took no more than a few years for FLOS to position themselves as the most innovative and revolutionary Italian lighting brand and after numerous products became part of the Italian exhibition at Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1972, FLOS became internationally renowned.
