Piero Lissoni, born on July 23, 1956, in Seregno, is a prominent Italian architect, art director, and designer. With over thirty years of experience, he has left his mark globally in architecture, landscape, interior, product, and graphic design. Serving as the art director for renowned brands such as Alpi, B&B Italia, Boffi, and others, Lissoni is a key figure in the design world.In 1986, he co-founded Lissoni & Partners in Milan with Nicoletta Canesi, focusing on architecture, interior, and product design. The studio expanded in 1996 with the addition of Lissoni Graphx, directed by Piero’s brother, Massimo Lissoni. This agency specializes in visual communication, handling brand identity, advertising, web design, and more. Notably, they coordinated the visual aspects of the Venice International Film Festival from 2007 to 2016.
The company was founded in 1962 by Dino and Cesare Cassina in Merano, Italy. The brand started out as a laboratory for designers and architects, seeking to innovate the lighting industry. In order to retain this philosophy, the company moved to Brescia, where the new headquarters were used as a think tank for new designs and ideas. In 1963, Sergio Gandini became managing director of the firm and would prove to be a crucial personality in FLOS’ history.
It took no more than a few years for FLOS to position themselves as the most innovative and revolutionary Italian lighting brand and after numerous products became part of the Italian exhibition at Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1972, FLOS became internationally renowned.
